A roundtable with Paul Midy
๐๐ป This morning, OneRagtime took part in a roundtable discussion alongside Paul Midy, MP for Essonne and inspirer of startup-friendly reforms in the 2024 Finance Law, and Evan Testa, CEO of Roundtable. We took a deep dive into the current and future challenges facing the financing of French startups:
๐๐ป Significantly increase tax incentives for investors in France through the evolution of the IR-PME to invest in Young Innovative Companies, inspired by the SEIS/EIS model which has already existed for 30 years in the UK with over 25,000 active business angel investors. In France, there are still only 5,000 business angels investing in our start-ups, 5 times fewer than in the UK. The aim is to triple this figure over the next few years.
๐๐ป Open up the IR PME scheme and the associated tax incentives to FPCIs, to ensure that investment becomes more professional.
๐๐ป Propose exit tax measures (already in place in the UK), to allow tax reductions on capital gains.
๐๐ป Encourage large groups to invest in start-ups: encourage large French companies to invest in and buy start-ups, and strengthen public-private partnerships.
Mobilizing French people's savings to finance start-ups will help create jobs, promote our energy transition, build our sovereignty and make France a pioneer in innovation. Let's keep supporting start-ups!
